NEWS SUMMARY
In Orlando, a Florida man was arrested by the police on charges of animal cruelty. Witnesses told the police that the man was kicking two swans on Lake Eola in Orlando while practicing karate.
On Thursday, June 24, police arrested Rocco Mantell, 34, and charged him with animal cruelty for kicking two swans allegedly while practicing karate.
The police arrived at the scene and arrested Rocco; they also looked for the attacked swans but couldn’t find them.
The witnesses informed the police department that Mantella had kicked the swans so hard on their heads that they fell to the ground. Another witness said that Mantell deliberately created a stance that would allow him to kick as hard as possible.
The same witness said that Rocco kicked a small duck that seemed to be sleeping.
A female witness said that Rocco deliberately left the park to go after the swans and also laughed when he saw her reaction to his act of kicking the swans.
Animal cruelty charges carry a maximum fine of $5,000 and/or a maximum prison net sentence of 1 year. Aggravate animal cruelty charges can extend the penalty to $10,000 and imprisonments to a maximum of 5 years.
According to witnesses, Mantell appeared to be practicing karate moves at the time when he kicked two swans so strongly on their heads that they fell on the ground.
He is also reported to have deliberately chased after the swans at Lake Eola in Orlando, Florida.
